LONG BEACH, California (AFP) – Microsoft founder turned disease-battling philanthropist Bill Gates loosed mosquitoes at an elite Technology, Entertainment, Design (TED) Conference to make a point about the deadly sting of malaria.

"Malaria is spread by mosquitoes," Gates said while opening a jar onstage at a gathering known to attract technology kings, politicians, and Hollywood stars.

"I brought some. Here I'll let them roam around. There is no reason only poor people should be infected."

Gates waited a minute or so before assuring the audience the liberated insects were malaria-free.

TED curator Chris Anderson fired back at the legendary computer software maker, joking that the headline for the video of his talk to be posted online at Ted.com would be "Gates releases more bugs into the world."

As he has in travels on behalf of his eponymous charitable foundation, Gates detailed the strides made in dealing with malaria in affluent countries and the need to fight the disease in impoverished nations.

"There is more money put into baldness drugs than into malaria," Gates quipped, triggering laughter. "Now, baldness is a terrible thing and rich men are afflicted. That is why that priority has been set."

Gates called for aggressive distribution of insect netting and other gear proven to protect people from disease-transmitting stings.

He also shared that a malaria vaccine backed by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation should start Phase Three testing in a few months.

"I am an optimist; I think any tough problem can be solved," Gates said.

"The market does not drive scientists, thinkers, or governments to do the right things. Only by paying attention and making people care can we make as much progress as we need to."

Gates' clever candor continued as he filed a question from Anderson about the pall he felt shrouding the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, last month.

"I think it is good that the mood in Davos was bleak," Gates said.

"It was a great meeting where people really had to say 'Hi, how is your economy falling apart ... Gee that is different than how mine is ... What is your solution?'"

Gates said he is confident the economy will recover, with new technologies playing vital roles, but that the financial meltdown was "a great checkpoint" compelling people to think realistically about money and business.

"For me, it was a chance to make sure aid for the poorest doesn't get cut," Gates said of his time at Davos.

His foundation plans to increase annual spending this year to 3.8 billion dollars despite its investment portfolio's value sinking.

In a TED session titled "Reboot," Gates also called for vastly improving the quality of teachers at US schools because it will take "brilliant people" to solve the world's woes.

"I hope I'm not in the Reboot session because you have to reboot your computers and associate that with me," Gates joked. "That might be fair, but don't think about it."

Punk Ass DJ's Destroying Hip Hop

These punk DJ's need to stop fronting and play new artist songs. Its a lot of talent out here, but certain DJ's only after the dough for one spin play. Dont you understand that if the artist blow, you blow. Even Diddy agrees with me,

SEAN COMBS has blamed a current lack of creativity in the global DJ scene for stifling hip-hop music. The rap mogul is adamant that the genre is in the midst of a “recession” because there are so few talented beatmakers around to help create interesting tracks.

He tells MTV.com, “People have figured out the formula when they make records for radio, and DJs ain’t DJs no more. DJs don’t break records no more. DJs don’t play album cuts. DJs play what is going to move the crowd. DJs, they don’t expose you to the newness. That was the DJs’ thing. Hip-hop is in a recession also.”

But Combs is convinced that there is enough fresh, young talent in the music industry at the moment to make sure that rap artists will continue to sell records.

He adds, “(Hip-hop) is not dead, it’s definitely way better than where it was at, as far as with ‘Ye, T.I. and with Jeezy. It’s so much great stuff out there, the responsibility has to come with the DJs.”

You hear that!!!! Punk Ass DJ's need to step their game up because I said so. LOL I'm no DJ, but this track is soooo Fire, i had to support my young new artist trying to support their families instead of hustlin on the streets.

Talented and creative artist, such as Demic & Bawsten, are going hard to keep hip hop alive. They have been promoting their album, The Golden Record, for a couple months now, and released 2 singles that already received play in club. "Miss Siditty" is their new single and this song is fire. This track debuted this weekend at popular New Brunswick clubs Perle and Glo Lounge. Look out for it all over the Tri State area.

Porn interrups Super Bowl

Companies pay thousands of dollars to have their commercials played during the Super Bowl. However, Comcast subcribers in Arizona saw a Rated X Porn Scene during the Super Bowl. Noone knows how it happened, but somehow only people in that area who used analog tv's were interrupted. The video is above and at 0:33, you will see the porn exposed during the game. Comcast is still investigating the situation, and are offering $10 bucks to anyone who seen it. Is that it? What about the children who were watching super bowl with their families? Ten lousy bucks cannot compensate how uncomfortable they must have felt..first janet exposes her nipple, and now this!

Boy Found Hung In Boys Bathroom

A Chicago mom received a call that her 10 year old son was found hanging in the boys bathroom at his elementary school. He somehow was hooked onto the back of the swinging door. There is no way he jumped and hung himself that way. One of his teachers said they last seen him leaving gym class, but then he out the blue disappeared. Okay, so why didnt they try to locate him. It doesnt make sense to take attendance and realize a student is missing and not report it. The janitor was the person who found the boy's body after school. By then it was too late. Something is fishy going on, the mom hasnt heard anything from the police or school.

Baby Chokes on Condom At Hotel

A Pittsburgh family had the worse nightmare the day they visited Homewood Suites in Mt. Laurel, NJ. The 22 month old toddler was instructed to sit on the pull out couch and watch TV, but then minutes later he was found choking on a used condom left behind by previous travelers. By the time the mother reached her son, he already swallowed the contents of the condom. The baby had to be rushed to the hospital to be tested for STD's. The family did file a lawsuit against the hotel, and stated that the maids left a "deadly weapon" in the hotel room.

The Philadelphia Daily News noted the suit contends a “life threatening” item was left in the room, which put the boy at risk of getting a "sexually transmitted disease, including HIV or AIDS, or some other, potentially life threatening, potentially fatal illness."


Ya'll need to be more careful and make sure these rooms are squeaky clean. This type of stuff cannot be happening on a regular basis. Get it together Homewood Suites or there will be no more extended stay at your business.

Mark Curry has a book coming out soon called "Dancing With the Devil." For those who dont already know, but the "Devil" is one and only, Diddy. I think the title is funny and catchy. Diddy has been called the devil many times before. It seems like every project or deal he made doesnt last long. Your fame and millions of money is taking away, while Diddy is still caking. He then charges them for his input. LOL

Sounds like this book is putting ALL Diddy's business out there. For 19.95 a copy, i hope its worth it. Everybody writing a Tell All Book nowadays, I wonder who's next?
