Bronx mugger gets what he deserve

Julio Diaz has a daily routine. Every night, the 31-year-old social worker ends his hour-long subway commute to the Bronx one stop early, just so he can eat at his favorite diner.
But one night last month, as Diaz stepped off the No. 6 train and onto a nearly empty platform, his evening took an unexpected turn.

He was walking toward the stairs when a teenage boy approached and pulled out a knife.

"He wants my money, so I just gave him my wallet and told him, 'Here you go,'" Diaz says.

As the teen began to walk away, Diaz told him, "Hey, wait a minute. You forgot something. If you're going to be robbing people for the rest of the night, you might as well take my coat to keep you warm."

The would-be robber looked at his would-be victim, "like what's going on here?" Diaz says. "He asked me, 'Why are you doing this?'"

Diaz replied: "If you're willing to risk your freedom for a few dollars, then I guess you must really need the money. I mean, all I wanted to do was get dinner and if you really want to join me ... hey, you're more than welcome.

"You know, I just felt maybe he really needs help," Diaz says.

Diaz says he and the teen went into the diner and sat in a booth.

"The manager comes by, the dishwashers come by, the waiters come by to say hi," Diaz says. "The kid was like, 'You know everybody here. Do you own this place?'"

"No, I just eat here a lot," Diaz says he told the teen. "He says, 'But you're even nice to the dishwasher.'"

Diaz replied, "Well, haven't you been taught you should be nice to everybody?"

"Yea, but I didn't think people actually behaved that way," the teen said.

Diaz asked him what he wanted out of life. "He just had almost a sad face," Diaz says.

The teen couldn't answer Diaz — or he didn't want to.

When the bill arrived, Diaz told the teen, "Look, I guess you're going to have to pay for this bill 'cause you have my money and I can't pay for this. So if you give me my wallet back, I'll gladly treat you."

The teen "didn't even think about it" and returned the wallet, Diaz says. "I gave him $20 ... I figure maybe it'll help him. I don't know."

Diaz says he asked for something in return — the teen's knife — "and he gave it to me."

Afterward, when Diaz told his mother what happened, she said, "You're the type of kid that if someone asked you for the time, you gave them your watch."

"I figure, you know, if you treat people right, you can only hope that they treat you right. It's as simple as it gets in this complicated world."

Night owls and people who sleep sleep sleep

1 // You may need more sleep than you think.
Research by Henry Ford Hospital Sleep Disorders Center found that people who slept eight hours and then claimed they were "well rested" actually performed better and were more alert if they slept another two hours. That figures. Until the invention of the lightbulb (damn you, Edison!), the average person slumbered 10 hours a night.

2 // Night owls are more creative.
Artists, writers, and coders typically fire on all cylinders by crashing near dawn and awakening at the crack of noon. In one study, "evening people" almost universally slam-dunked a standardized creativity test. Their early-bird brethren struggled for passing scores.

3 // Rising early is stressful.
The stress hormone cortisol peaks in your blood around 7 am. So if you get up then, you may experience tension. Grab some extra Zs! You'll wake up feeling less like Bert, more like Ernie.

Time Warner avoids blackout

LOS ANGELES - Time Warner Cable Inc. said it reached a deal Thursday with Viacom Inc. on carriage fees, avoiding a blackout of 19 cable channels including MTV and Comedy Central.

The two sides, citing disagreement over fee hikes, had threatened a damaging blackout at midnight Eastern time that would have cut off shows such as "SpongeBob SquarePants" and "The Colbert Report" to about 15.7 million subscribers.

Shortly after agreeing to extend a midnight deadline by an hour, Time Warner Cable spokesman Alex Dudley said the sides agreed on a new contract.

Its A Wrap For Cable TV!

Time Warner and Bright House customers will lose 20 Viacom channels, such as Nickelodeon, MTV, VH1,  and BET, because their cable company and Viacom are in dispute. The contract ends 2nite at midnight between Viacom and TW and BH. Viacom wants to increase their fees so cable companies are debating whether to renew the contract and they have a few hours to come to a decision. They will cause cable companies to charge more than $30 more if they go in their favor. If they fail to renew the contract, people will most likely cancel their cable service and switch to satellite tv because all the good channels will be gone. I mean really , NICK, MTV, BET, and VH1, are the most watched channels. No more reality shows or children programs. But there is a twist!

Cable operators such as Time Warner are also miffed that Viacom and other companies have made some of their most popular programming available for free on the Internet. That's where many fans of Comedy Central's Stewart and Stephen Colbert catch their shows.

"They are not charging people more for that," Time Warner's Dudley said. "We will just tell our customers how to hook up their PCs to their television sets so they can watch it online for free."
This is true because when i miss a show on TV, i just go to the website and watch it on there for free. I rarely watch TV now because i know i can watch all my shows on the PC. So now they are encouraging this to happen if the contract is not renewed. Cable TV is done for 2009, but for those who still want to watch their favorite channels on the television, you need to call the numbers below and demand it. NOW! You have 15 hours!!!!!!!

Time Warner Cable customers call 1-800-762-3786 and Bright House Networks customers call 1-866-309-3279, AND DEMAND THEY KEEP YOUR CHANNEL!
Brighthouse has already added to their website to visit www.hulu.com to watch their favorite shows..This is real ppl!

Diddy help Alcoholics but not college students!!!

Diddy and Ciroc are giving out free cab rides home after the ball drop on New Years. He wants New Yorkers to have a good time, party hard, and get home safely. A street team will be passing out $15 dollar debit cards in Timesquare and Chelsea tomorrow starting at 11pm. So if you in the area, just know that Diddy got U!

However, Morris Brown, a historically black college will be closing down soon because they are in $30 million in debt. The water is currently shut off and will be until they come up with $380,000. If they dont come up with the money, then the college will be forced to shut down. One of the buildings is scheduled for foreclosure on January 6. Now Diddy is out here wasting money on cab fares when he could be investing in someone's future. The college holds 400 students and they are on winter break now and may not have a school to return to..this is terrible news. The school is 127 years old..DONATE, especially you Diddy!

African American dies at 112

George Francis died this weekend due to congestive heart failure. He lived to be 112 years old, making him the oldest to live. Born in Louisiana in 1896, he lived to see Obama become the first black president of the United States. This is amazing! People are living a lot longer these days, and woman are having children at the age of 70. Life is good!

Tom Brady is getting hitched!

Despite his on field injury everything is not bad for the NFL pro bowler. Despite splitting with the mother of his child late in 2006 Tom Brady has still found love. Not to mention he did this without the help of a VH1 Reality show. The name of the lucky female is Gisele Bundchen who is a Brazilian Supermodel.

How Low Can You Go?

Over the past few months, gas prices have went from almost 4 bucks to now about $1.50 averaged. Every week gas gets lower, and lower, and lower. But for how long will this new trend last? I'm rolling in a Kia, and you can laugh if you want to, but I havent refilled on gas in two weeks, and i still have a half tank left. 2 weeks ago $13 dollars filled my tank up, so I'm loving it. In my hood, gas is now $1.41! Its about to be a new year, income tax time is approaching, so i'm thinking its going to rise slowly because people will have more money to spend. Supply and demand can be a b!tch, so my prediction will be that gas is going to rise to almost 2 bucks in Jan 2009. Let's see if it happens, but until then..enjoy your cheap gas while you can.
